you think I’m going to explain it to you so you can understand it? No, you’re not going to be able to understand it. Why, then, am I going to bother you with all this? Why are you going to sit here all this time, when you won’t be able to understand what I am going to say? It is my task to convince you not to turn away because you don’t understand it. You see, my physics students don’t understand it either. That is because I don’t understand it. Nobody does.

Since the Dirac-Feynman path integral formalism is completely equivalent to the Heisenberg formalism, it most certainly contains the uncertainty principle.

我的人生准则其实是追求快乐的说:azukisan_009:

Throughout much of history, prodigies were thought to be possessed; Aristotle believed that there could be no genius without madness. Paganini was accused of putting himself in the hands of the devil. The Italian criminologist Cesare Lombroso said in 1891, “Genius is a true degenerative psychosis belonging to the group of moral insanity.” Recent neuroscience demonstrates that the processes of creativity and psychosis map similarly in the brain, each contingent on a reduced number of dopamine D2 receptors in the thalamus.

“She made friends with Madonna,” her mother said. “I didn’t make friends with her,” Natasha protested. “She told me, ‘You classical musicians are too stuck-up. You really should think about wearing hot pants.’”

麦当娜说过这种话??:azukisan_phone:

“Everyone would say, ‘You must be so proud of your daughter,’” Natalie said. “I used to say that it’s not for me to be proud, it’s Natasha who does this herself—but I learned that this is not the polite American way. So now I always say, ‘I am so proud of my daughter,’ and then maybe we can have a conversation.”

To be a musician, the person has to have a mimetic capacity to reproduce others’ techniques. “That should not be dismissed as simply replication,” said Justin Davidson, music critic for New York magazine. “That’s how we learn to speak, to write, to express ourselves.

The question of how high IQ correlates to genius has been in debate ever since the tests were introduced. Terman followed a group of about fifteen hundred children with very high IQs; seventy years later, his critics claimed, they had accomplished no more than their socioeconomic status would have predicted. One child Terman had excluded as not bright enough, William Shockley, had coinvented the transistor and won the Nobel Prize in Physics.

most people embark on parenthood in optimism, and even those who soberly consider a worst-case scenario cannot adequately predict their response to such a situation until they are in it.

In Peter Singer’s definition, Imogen, Ashley, and others like them are not persons. Nonetheless, the parents I met who lived with and cared for such children often described a great deal of personhood in them. It’s impossible to establish in any given case in what measure such personhood is observed and in what measure imagined or projected.

He proposes that not all persons are human beings; […] In Practical Ethics he wrote, “Killing a disabled infant is not morally equivalent to killing a person. Very often it is not wrong at all.” […] Singer in effect reverses cogito, ergo sum and says that those who do not think do not exist.
